America
On Wheels is proud and excited to be the latest cultural
attraction in the Lehigh Valley. The museum serves as a
center of education and meeting places for the community.
School children are able to benefit from educational programs
and field trips, while adults expand their knowledge through
exemplary exhibits and lectures. It is also a unique facility
for hosting private and corporate special events.
The museum opened its doors in April 2008 in the midst
of the financial crisis that struck the Lehigh Valley along
with the rest of the nation. This economic downturn resulted
in our admissions, grant and membership revenue, and corporate
contributions to all be less than budgeted. Despite this,
the museum has been able to attract over 30,000 visitors
per year, which is a testament to the hard work of its small
staff and the dedication of its cadre of volunteers who
have donated thousands of hours to ensure the museum's success.
To help us continue our journey, we are turning to the
community for support as we kick off our Fill'er Up
Campaign. As donations from philanthropic and corporate
foundations have decreased, individual giving is on the
upswing. The museum is looking to benefit from this current
trend by appealing to local businesses, residents, fraternal
organizations and unions to support this essential cultural
attraction. Sustaining a museum of this caliber requires
significant effort but it is attainable with the support
of our community. Our goal is to raise $100,000 by the end
of the year through $1,000 contributions from 100 businesses
or individuals or $500 contributions from 200 donors. However,
any amount will be greatly appreciated. The funds raised
from this campaign will be used for operating expenses and
ongoing educational programs associated with our exhibits
and displays. Purchasing an annual membership is another
way to support the museum.
When we opened our doors, we expected additional development
to occur along the riverfront soon after us. Two years later,
we are still waiting. While we don't expect to be a stand-alone
destination forever, it will be another couple of years
before we have neighbors. In the meantime, we are determined
to continue to provide an exceptional facility that will
entertain and educate our visitors. We hope you will help
us achieve our goal of providing an outstanding museum experience
for all who pass through our doors.
For your convenience, a Fill'er Up Campaign
contribution card is enclosed. We thank you for your kind
consideration of our request. If you have any questions,
or would like to discuss the promising future of America
On Wheels, please contact Linda at 610-432-4200 x11 or director@americaonwheels.org.

will find it is "Definitely a Trip Worth Taking."
Treasure the day,
