Dear Friend of the Community

On behalf of our Board of Directors of America On Wheels Museum we welcome you to consider the following request to support our growing cultural and educational institution in our $2 Million Capacity Campaign. We continue to communicate to the visiting public the richness and significance of the development of vehicular transportation and its revolutionary impact on a continuing evolutionary pattern of life style changes and social history. This is accomplished through interpretative exhibits using cultural artifacts, classic vehicles, films, lectures, demonstration programs, special events and publications.

We have an amazing opportunity that has been placed before our Board which can help us achieve our growing needs both culturally, and from a strong educational perspective, in the form of a challenge grant in the amount of $500,000. The guidelines for this grant state the $500,000 must be matched by December 4, 2013, and is included in our overall $2 million fundraising goal. Therefore, we are launching a Capacity Campaign. What a wonderful opportunity for us!

Since our opening in 2008, on the former Arbogast & Bastian property, adjacent to the proposed multi-million dollar redevelopment Lehigh Landing Riverfront Project, America On Wheels seeks to gain momentum in achieving specific growth targets. We are confident that our unique displays and educational programs provide our visitors with a museum experience unmatched in the region.

These growth targets are:

  • Raise funds for the ongoing growth of the museum's endowment
  • Enhance the educational component in our newly constructed Restoration Learning Center
  • Grow management and operations. Good management, thorough planning, a professional staff and clearly defined procedures remain critical to the continued success of America On Wheels
  • Achieve the American Association of Museum Accreditation
  • Enhance the existing exhibition space in the museum
  • Provide an educational component as part of the Museum's new Auto Art Gallery
  • Improve the rotating exhibits collection care capacity and storage facilities
  • Accelerate the satisfaction of the current museum's mortgage of million, reduced from $17 million when the museum opened in 2008
  • Establish and market The History of Bridges, an accredited education exhibit to be fabricated by PennDot depicting the history, construction and physics of bridges from ancient to modern times (coming 2014)

We have a wonderful opportunity in front of us, and we are reaching out for your help. America On Wheels takes great pride in establishing and promoting best practices and standards for the fields of public history and we hope you will consider the possibilities of partnering with us through a contribution.

America On Wheels is more than a place where all sorts of people can gather to learn, have fun and celebrate - first hand - America's love affair with the automobile. Cars have touched all out lives and museums are a community teasure to educate all who visit. There are two ways to help either complete your contribution online here or download this Capacity Campaign pledge card. If you have any questions regarding our Capacity Campaign, please don't hesitate to contact either of us at 610.432.4200. Museums are community treasures that provide a welcoming environment for learning and entertainment. Thank you again for your consideration to participate in our Capacity Campaign appeal.

With kind regards,

Linda Merkel
